In 2009, I was encouraged by my friends to give the 365 photo project a try. I love taking photos, and was excited about participating. The daily posts paint a brief picture of my year and open my eyes to the beauty around me. It is challenging to post a photo daily. I was successful in 2009 and 2010, but fell a few short in 2011. I'll be continuing my quest for daily photos in 2012 and look forward to sharing them here.

Day 90 - Love
I love this heart-shaped cactus (leaf?) and the fun I'm having with my daughters this week. It is such a wonderful experience to take a 'Girls Vacation' with my grown daughters.

Day 89 - Prickly
I love seeing the cactus plants here since we don't have that kind of plant life back home. I love the texture of this one, but I would not want to run into it! Kristin and I took a bike ride on bikes from the resort, so we had a chance to see lots of local landscaping on our way to pick up some groceries at Trader Joe's.

Day 88 - Fountain
We had another beautiful day in Arizona today. This is a fountain at our resort. I took the photo on our way back from dinner tonight. We had another very relaxing day!

Day 87 - Arizona
We arrived in Arizona late last night and spent today at the pool. We are staying at Intercontinental Montelucia Resort and Spa in Paradise Valley just outside of Scottsdale. This is the view from the balcony on our room. That is Camelback Mountain in the background. It was a gorgeous day today!

Day 86 - Sunset 2
This is the view out the back window of our car as we drive to the airport for our trip to Arizona. I'm looking forward to spending five wonderful days with my daughters! I'm sure we'll be seeing lots of sun!

Day 85 - Phone
I always giggle a bit when I see my husband talking on this phone. We do have smaller, more modern cordless phones in several rooms of our home. However, Scott seems to prefer this 'brick' that is in his home office. It does seem to be easier to hear on this phone, maybe a sign that we are both getting a bit deaf!

Day 84 - Birds
Although the last of our snow has finally melted, and the birds can now find ample food, they are still enjoying a free meal at our feeder.

Day 83 - Wine glasses
Today was a great day for errands. One stop was at Crate and Barrel to pick up a gift for a bridal shower. While I was there I bought us some new wine glasses. I came home with six new glasses, but unfortunately one has to go back because when I unwrapped it, there was a chip in the base. Overall, I'm happy with these glasses because they will fit better into the dishwasher.
Cheers!

Day 82 - Baby!
This is a photo of my first grandbaby! We actually received this photo from our daughter and son-in-law on Christmas morning. What a wonderful gift! We were sworn to secrecy until the pregnancy was 13 weeks along. My daughter and the baby are doing well and we look forward to the birth of our first grandchild in early August. I'm looking forward to seeing Cheryl and Seth tonight for dinner.
***Update: On 3/25 our daughter found out the baby is a boy!

Day 81 - Sunset
After a somewhat dreary day today, the sky started to clear and gave us a pretty sunset this evening. I love this time of year when the daylight hours are getting longer.

Day 80 - Belated St. Pat's Day
Here's another of my mom's holiday needlepoint creations. Having her needlework on display always makes me smile! I guess I should have take this photo a few days ago....oh well, Happy Belated St. Patrick's Day!

Day 79 - Spring?
This was the scene that greeted us when we woke up this morning. Yesterday it was near 60º F. and this morning it is only 32º and snowing. I'm guessing Scott is wishing he had pulled the car into the garage last night!

Day 78 - Happy Birthday!
Scott's parents took us out for dinner tonight to celebrate his birthday and his sister Marcia's birthday. We had a wonderful time!
Happy birthday, Scott & Marcia!

Day 77 - Shadows
What a gorgeous spring day today! The sunny, warm, and breezy weather was perfect for an extra long walk with the dog. This is the wooden walkway that goes out into a restored wetlands area at the park near our house. Everything is still pretty brown, but things should start greening up during the next month.

Day 76 - St. Patrick's Day!
Our retiree group had their monthly luncheon today. Although I brought my camera, someone else did the picture taking today, so technically I didn't take my own picture today. But, we had a wonderful time celebrating St. Patrick's Day at a great Irish Pub. We had about 25 retired teachers, all decked out in green!

Day 75 - Buds
The warmer weather we've had this week is encouraging our bushes to begin their spring growth. This Magnolia has a lot of buds that will be turning into flowers in the next few weeks. I'm looking forward to the flowers of spring!

Day 74 - Landfill?
To see an old TV put out with the trash and heading to a landfill makes me sad. We have marvelous recycling events in this area. It is very easy to make sure that old technology gets properly recyled. How sad that some people are still too lazy to dispose of TVs correctly.

Day 73 - Books & Software
Yesterday's task of updating the computers lead to cleaning off a shelf by my desk. This pile contains books and software that I no longer need. My next task is to list them on eBay.
March 13, 2010
Day 72 - Computer time
With nothing on the calendar this weekend, I decided today was a good day to do some computer tasks. Both my desktop and laptop Macs got backed up, software updates, and regular maintenance. (Yes, I'm a nerd!) Lucy was 'helping' by watching the progress of one of the updates!

Day 71 - Cooking!
Today I was subbing in a special education classroom and it was 'cooking day'. The kids got to make quesadillas and root beer floats. The students loved the activity and they were on task and well behaved all at the same time, which is often not the case for this group of youngsters. It was wonderful seeing them motivated and happy!

Day 70 - Daffodils
When spring is close, I get impatient for the spring flowers to bloom outside. The ones in our yard won't be blooming for a couple of weeks yet (see yesterday's photo). I like to buy bunches of daffodils from the grocery store to brighten up things indoors, especially on gray, rainy days like today. There is something about a bright yellow daffodil that makes me smile!

Day 69 - New sprouts
The temperature has been above freezing for a few days and the snow has been melting fast. When I came home from subbing this afternoon, I noticed that our daffodils are starting to sprout. This is a sure sign that spring is near!

Day 68 - Late afternoon
I snapped this shot late this afternoon as I was leaving the eye doctor's office. It was gently raining, but the sun was peaking through the clouds in the western sky. We are finally beginning to get some spring-like weather this week!

Day 67 - Lemons
Tonight I went out to dinner to celebrate the birthdays of three dear friends. The ten of us enjoyed many laughs, shared stories, and enjoyed a great meal together. In this photo, Sue shows her gift of lemons! It was a perfect gift from our friend Lois who knows that Sue enjoys her ice tea 'with 3 lemons'. I'm blessed to have this group of friends!

Day 66 - 30th birthday
We had a birthday party for our oldest daughter today. We had about 30 people for dinner as we celebrated her 30th birthday. We had not told her there was going to be a party. We had only told her that her grandparents would be here, so every time the doorbell rang, she was surprised! We wanted this birthday to be special for Cheryl as it is the last birthday before she becomes a mom in August. It was a lovely afternoon as everyone had a chance to visit, eat, and share many laughs.

Day 65 - Turtle
I spent the morning at a craft fair with a good friend. I bought a few little gifts and also this turtle pendant for myself. I've had a special place in my heart for turtles for many years. We've had our box turtle, Rainman, as a pet for about 20 years. I'll enjoy wearing this pendant!

Day 64 - Fire hydrant
Our neighbor has done a good job of keeping this fire hydrant shoveled out this winter. It is important for safety and very much appreciated by the fire fighters if there is a need to find it. Of course, the dogs in the neighborhood appreciate his kindness, too!

Day 63 - Shattered!
During my walk with the dog this morning, I came across this spot on the sidewalk. It is a low area where water & ice always accumulates. I've had to be very careful not to fall as I've walked across this part of the sidewalk all winter. Today, there is melting going on and evidence that many feet have walked across this spot this morning. I'll bet the kids walking to school had a good time stomping on this ice!

Day 62 - Window
This 'window' was in the classroom where I was subbing this afternoon. The classroom is a small space where children come for extra help with literacy. The teacher does not have a real window with a view in her room, so she has created this cheerful window. What a pleasant addition!

Day 61 - New toy
Finding toys that interest our beagle is always a challenge, but this new toy is a big hit. It screws apart so that treats or kibble can be added. Then when screwed back together, the treats drop out occasionally as Lucy plays with it. Since beagles are always hungry, this is the perfect toy to keep her occupied and active!

Day 60 - Lola
Tonight was the last night of our current session of doggy classes. This is Lucy's friend Lola. Lola belongs to a very good friend of mine. Our Lucy is adopted and has had a lot of 'manners' to learn. When we first started taking her to obedience training, she would bark at every dog in the room. She has made a lot of progress and will now sit calmly and watch the other dogs taking their turn on the rally course. We're hoping she'll continue to become more social with the help of friends like Lola!
