I'm airing my dirty laundry.....well, not really laundry, but the clutter that has accumulated in one room of our home. Yesterday, we had the carpeting cleaned in the house, so we had to get things up off the floor. This room is our dormer and has been a playroom for years. The boxes you see are sitting on our pool table. The clutter is a combination of STUFF that I brought home from school when I retired and that our two daughters have left when moving out. Maybe now that I've confessed, we'll actually spend some time sorting through the stuff!

Day 315 - What is it?
A man brought this strange thing into my house today. He was here for about 3 hours. What is this thing and why did the man bring it into my home?

Day 314 - Thomas Middle School
Today, I spent the lunch hour eating lunch with middle school students. I was asked to participate in their 'mix it up lunch'. As part of their Rachel's Challenge, they randomly assigned all students to a lunch table so that they were sitting with classmates they did not know as well as the friends they ordinarily sit with at lunch. Each table had an adult from the community sitting at the table to encourage conversation. I was happy to be a community volunteer today at this great activity!

Day 313 - Misplaced bulb
I found this misplaced bulb on our driveway this morning. I'm wondering where it came from. I'm sure a sneaky squirrel dug it up, but from where. I planted a bunch of bulbs a couple weeks ago, but I see no evidence of digging in my gardens. So, where did he get it and what kind of plant will it become. I replanted it, and come spring, we shall see!

Day 312 - Our house
Today we enjoyed an unseasonably warm fall day. The temperature made it up to 70˚ F. This photo of our house shows the long shadows of late afternoon. The large tree in front of our house is the last to lose its leaves every year. We'll be back to rain tomorrow and cooler temperatures the rest of the week, so I'm glad we got to enjoy some Indian Summer weather this weekend!

Dy 311 - New TV
Earlier this month, we had a handyman reconfigure our wall unit so that it would fit a larger TV. See Day 292 to see the old TV in the bigger space. Today's photo shows the new TV in the bigger space. What a difference! We spent today setting up the TiVo and rearranging the photo albums, picture frames etc. on the wall unit. We lost some shelves for knick knacks, etc., but we gained a much better TV for viewing enjoyment!

Day 310 - Smelling roses
When Lucy woke up this morning, she ran downstairs and jumped up to see what was on the kitchen table. She apparently was smelling the roses I brought home from our gathering last night. Lucy would not heed the 'OFF' command. So, I put the vase on the floor and let her smell the roses. I think she was disappointed that something that smelled so good was not edible!

Day 309 - Celebrating Life!
Twenty friends gathered for dinner tonight to celebrate the life of a dear friend and colleague. Ann lost her battle with breast cancer 4 years ago. This Celebration of Life dinner has become an annual tradition and we all celebrate her life with LOVE, laughter, conversation, and food! Our dinner this year was in the Wine Room at Biaggi's. What a lovely way to spend time with friends!

Day 308 - Checking plurk
When I came home from subbing this afternoon, I sat down to check my email, facebook, and plurk messages. Lucy decided to check plurk out too!

Day 307 - Fallen leaves
We've had some cold and windy days this week. This tree has lost all of its leaves during the past few days. Lucy, our dog, has been having fun romping through the blanket of fallen leaves. She enjoys the smells from the leaves!

Day 306 - New bed
Although Lucy loved the first bed we bought for her, it was light weight and she would often flip it over and end up sleeping on it upside down. Today, I bought her a new bed. It is a lot sturdier and easier to keep clean. Lucy likes her new bed!

Day 305 - Fox!
I took this photo of a fox out our family room window. My husband was looking out the kitchen window and yelled to me, "Look quick!" I was amazed! We have never seen a fox in our backyard before. I'm glad my camera was handy so I didn't miss this shot.

Day 304 - Halloween!
After retiring from teaching, I saved ONE Halloween sweater. I just had to wear it today when going out for lunch with teacher friends!

Day 303 - Pumpkin cake
This is the cake I baked today to take to a Pumpkin Fest party. The party is held in memory of a colleague who died from breast cancer 4 years ago. Attending the party are past & present students, parents, and staff members. At the party, the kids carve pumpkins. We all eat, visit, and laugh!

Day 302 - Too wet!
We have had so much rain in October that THIS is what is growing in one of our gardens. What is it??

Day 301 - Orange balls
At the bowling alley this afternoon, I saw this rack of orange balls. They are the light weight balls that the little kids use with the bumpers for birthday parties. With Halloween coming up this weekend, they reminded me of pumpkins!

Day 300 - Evening walk
Lucy loves to go for a nice long walk after dinner. I'm not crazy about it being dark now that fall is here. But Lucy doesn't seem to mind. She seems to 'see' with her nose! She is enjoying all the new smells that Fall brings.

Day 299 - Skeleton
This scary skeleton was made by one of the children in the primary special education class where I subbed today. They had a lot of fun gluing on many shapes of pasta to create their masterpieces. There are now a line of skeletons waiting for Halloween!

Day 298 - Giant arachnid!
While out for a walk with the dog this evening, we came across this giant arachnid. She didn't quite know what to make of it and gave it a growl & a couple of barks before moving on. This purple spider is an air-filled Halloween decoration and it lies flat & deflated during the day, but swells to this size at night when the motor is on. Lots of yards in our neighborhood are ready for Halloween next weekend!

Day 297 - Wrigley
This handsome guy is a certified therapy dog. Today I worked at a local public library in a program for children with autism. They get to come for an hour and interact with the therapy dogs. Wrigley is a big dog, but is as gentle as can be. He is so well trained and was a great companion to the children who spent time with him today.

Day 296 - Big puddle
It has now been raining for about 30 hours straight. When I took the dog out this morning, she wanted to turn right around and head back into the house! I grabbed my camera and snapped this photo of the raindrops hitting the big puddle at the end of our driveway.

Day 295 - Wet pumpkins
I snapped this photo as I was leaving to substitute teach this morning. It had started raining during the night and continued to rain all day. I am so glad we took time to plant the bulbs in our gardens yesterday!

Day 294 - Fall at the lake
On my way home from my flu shot this morning, I decided to stop and walk around Lake Arlington because the weather is beautiful today. I haven't been to the lake in quite awhile, mostly because when I walk, I have the dog with me and they don't allow dogs at this lake. That makes me sad, because I know Lucy would love walking the 2 mile path around this lake. But, I'm glad I stopped today. The fall colors were wondereful!

Day 293 - Fun fundraiser
We went to a really fun fundraiser this evening for Clearbrook, a local agency that provides services for children and adults with disabilities. It was an 'Around the World Food Tasting' and there were foods from 22 different local restaurants to sample 'tapas-style'. Since it was a warm fall evening, the 11 of us that went together sat outside on the terrace while we sampled the foods and visited. I wish I had remembered to take my camera out of my purse while we were still there!

Day 292 - Wall unit
Today we hired a handyman to reconfigure the wall unit in our family room so that it can hold a bigger TV. Last year, we bought the largest flat screen we could that would fit in the space that originally housed our old tube TV. As you can see, the TV is not big enough to enjoy. But, the new space that has been configured should be able to hold a much larger flat screen. My husband is anticipating being able to see the TV while sitting on the sofa!
