In 2009, I was encouraged by my friends to give the 365 photo project a try. I love taking photos, and was excited about participating. The daily posts paint a brief picture of my year and open my eyes to the beauty around me. It is challenging to post a photo daily. I was successful in 2009 and 2010, but fell a few short in 2011. I'll be continuing my quest for daily photos in 2012 and look forward to sharing them here.

Day 181 - Coreopsis
I've been adding perennials to our gardens this year. The pesky rabbits have been nibbling the coreopsis and I was afraid they wouldn't make it, but they've come back and are blooming beautifully.

Day 180 - First tomato
Here's our first green tomato. We planted a couple tomato plants this year for the first time in many years. I'm hoping we get a crop of some delicious ripe tomatoes!

Day 179 - Celebrate!
This is Uncle Bruce. He has a family picnic at his house every June around his birthday. This year he had lots to celebrate, not only was it his birthday, but he also retired. Happy retirement Uncle Bruce!

Day 178 - Graduation
This time of year is often busy with graduation celebrations. This year was no exception. My cousin's daughter Elyse graduated from high school. Here she is with her grandparents. Congratulations Elyse!

This animation was so quick and easy to do! I imported the photos from my 'Lucy' set on Flickr. I love experimenting with web tools that allow sharing of photos, videos, and slideshows. GoAnimate.com is definitely a keeper. It was recommended by friends attending a Pre-NECC conference who are at a workshop on using animation.

Day 177 - Bug!
Ick! This bug was in the house & I snapped a picture of it before my dear husband smooshed it. It is way bigger than a mosquito. What is it?

Day 176 - Patio pot
The plants in this patio pot really took off this week after the rain last week and the hot sun this week.

Day 175 - Our tree man
Today Scott & I hung up his Father's Day gift. I had seen a tree similar to this earlier in the spring while out walking in the neighborhood. I knew Scott would enjoy it. This one has space in the mouth for birdseed or peanuts for the squirrels. We can view this tree out the bay window in our kitchen, so we should enjoy seeing squirrel antics!

Day 174 - Pool time
With temperatures in the 90s today, it was a good day to get out the 'kiddie' pool. Lucy tested the water! She had to be coaxed in, but was willing to pose for a photo. Scott & I were out working in the gardens, doing some weeding, so we dipped our feet in to cool off too!

Day 173 - Hanging plant
This hanging plant was given to us by a neighborhood teenager. She was apologizing for backing her car over our lawn. That was so sweet! There really wasn't much damage. The plant wasn't labeled & had no buds when she gave it to us. This week, after all the rain & sun it is really blooming! Does anybody know what it is?

Day 172 - Volleyball
An annual Father's Day tradition for many years has been playing volleyball in the pool at my husband's parents' home. It has been fun to see the game through the years, from the early years when the grandkids were too young to play to now when some kids are married or bring boyfriends. Although we missed having two of the grown kids at the party this year, we had an enjoyable Father's Day with the family.

Day 171 - Cat
Today we attended the one year anniversary celebration of The Buddy Foundation's shelter. This wonderful older cat is a permanent resident, and he resides in the kitten room, teaching the kittens to play nicely. The Buddy Foundation is a wonderful shelter. We adopted our dog from them earlier this year.

Day 170 - Grandpa and Grandma
This is an old photo of my grandparents, it was taken in front of a building. In the original photo some kids were visible hiding behind pillars. I used fotoflexer.com/ to brush out the background and add the black mat. What a nice way to preserve family memories!

Day 169 - One-to-One
Today I had a One-to-one appointment at the Apple Store. I learned about the Numbers application from iWork '09. I think the One-to-one program at Apple is awesome! For $99 a year, I can take a one hour private lesson once a week and learn new things or work on projects under the guidance of an Apple Creative. Today I renewed my One-to-one membership for another year. Even though I've been a 'Mac Girl' for 17+ years, I still love learning new things!

Day 168 - Pinstripes
Today was our first 'Lunch Bunch' outing of the summer! I have a group of awesome friends from school who love to get together for lunch out every Wednesday during the summer. We enjoy trying new restaurants. Today was the first time many of us had been to Pinstripes. We had a great lunch!

Day 167 - Rain and more rain
Today was one of those days where it rained ALL DAY. It wouldn't be bad to curl up inside with a good book all day, but the dog needs to go out several times a day. She doesn't like walking in the cold rain anymore than I do!

Day 166 - First rose
This is the first rose to bloom in our garden this spring. We've had this particular rose plant for quite a few years and it always grows tall and busy with lots of blooms. Currently there are multiple buds on each stem. I wonder if I'm supposed to 'deadhead' roses like I do the peonies in order to thin out the blooms.

Day 165 - Unusual flower
The flowers in a hanging basket that I bought started blooming this week. They are very unusual flowers. The top photo is how they look before they open and the bottom photo is how they look when fully opened. I wish I knew what they were.....I thought I was buying an impatient!

Day 164 - Watermelon
Lucy enjoyed a little watermelon treat while I was cutting up fruit this afternoon. She loves just about every fruit & vegetable that we do! I was cutting up the fruit to take with us to Ravinia tonight. We enjoyed a pleasant evening outdoors with friends, listening to the BoDeans while eating dinner & sipping on homemade Sangria.
Here I am at Ravinia with Meghan, Deb, and Kelly.

Day 163 - Good-bye analog
I waited a bit too late to take my photo today, so it is darker than I wanted it. Today was the day the TV stations flipped the switch, turned off analog TV and switched to all digital. As I was out walking the dog tonight, I glanced at the neighbor's roof and wondered if antennas will be a thing of the past.

Day 162 - Gymnastics!
I was asked to sub for a SpEd class today, which is the second to the last day of school (a half day). I went with the class on a field trip to a local gymnastics school. The kids had SO much fun, and so did I! These kids all have severe communication disorders as well as other intellectual, motor, & behavioral disabilities. The freedom to explore the gymnastics equipment was wonderful for them!

Day 161 - Calling all birds
Our bird feeding station draws a nice variety of different birds. The ground underneath draws the four legged critters: rabbits, squirrels & chipmunks (and our dog!). This time of year my dear husband fills the feeder once a day for our greedy feathered friends.
June 9, 2009
Day 160 - Orioles?
I added an oriole feeder to the bird feeder pole today. The nice young man at the bird store said to try it with oranges and grape jelly for a couple weeks, but if we don't see orioles by then, we should put it away until mid August when the orioles will be flying through our area again. I'm hoping we'll get to see some!

Day 159 - Sunset
What a sunset! This was our view out the windshield of the car on our way home after dropping Kristin off at the airport.
And this photo was taken at home before we left for the airport. Hubby & I didn't make it into the photo video from yesterday because I was too busy taking photos of everyone else!

Day 158 - Bon Voyage party
Today we had a Bon Voyage party for our daughter Kristin. She is flying to Uganda tomorrow to work with an organization called Spring of Hope. She'll be working as an OT with children who have disabilities. We are very proud of her! The photos in this video are family members & friends who stopped by to give her a hug before she left.
This video represents new learning for me, too. It is my first Animoto creation and the first time I uploaded a video to YouTube.

Day 157 - Grooming
We're getting ready for a party at our house....yardwork is done, house is cleaned, now Lucy gets a good brushing!
June 5, 2009
Day 156 - Peonies inside
I finally cut some peonies and brought them inside this morning. I love having a few inside to enjoy! They bloom for such a short time each spring.

Day 155 - Grandparents
We had a nice dinner out with Kristin's grandparents tonight. Since she lives in Denver, they don't get to see her as often. She'll be leaving for Africa in a few days, so this visit with Grandpa & Grandma was especially good. Kristin is so very lucky to have her wonderful grandparents in her life!
June 3, 2009
Day 154 - Rav4
Kristin arrived home late last night! We are so thankful to have her home. She almost wasn't able to drive home from Denver since a month ago she was rear ended and her poor Rav4 had to have major repairs - new rear door, window, bumper, etc. Thank goodness for excellent insurance and a repair shop willing to work hard to get the car back to her in time for her trip.

Day 153 - Monarch
This isn't a real butterfly, but the big metal monarch on a stake adds whimsy to the garden!

Day 152 - Peonies
The peonies are just about open! Last night's rain and today's sun ought to bring us a gorgeous array of flowers by tomorrow. These peonies were transplanted from my mom's garden and my grandma's garden years ago. Every spring, when they bloom, I think of the special ladies in my life, especially Mom and Mormor.
